The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association has filed a lawsuit (HJTA v. CAL FIRE) that is before the courts that contends, “The fire fee is really an illegal tax under Proposition 13.”
The lawsuit is challenging the fee and seeking refunds for people who have filed a timely Petition for Redetermination. To be eligible for a refund you must file a petition form within 30 days from the date printed on the notice to pay the Fire Prevention Fee.
