For many of us, the 4th of July is a summer holiday that we spend with our friends and families relaxing, barbecuing, and enjoying fireworks. But its importance beyond being a federal holiday cannot be overstated. It commemorates the day that we as a soon-to-be nation declared independence from Britain and adopted the Declaration of Independence, which expressed the fundamental principles that this nation was founded upon. Too many countries across the world yearn for true independence from leaders and governments that do not have the freedoms and liberties that Americans enjoy by casting informed votes. This 4th of July, take a moment to reflect on the importance of this day, the brave people who protect our country, and the fallen who will be missed by their families.
