The 76th season at the Del Mar Racetrack got off to a running start on July 16th! The stylish event brought over 40,000 people to Del Mar to try and win big. The racetrack is not only fun; it is a vital piece of the local economy, bringing in approximately $75 million in revenue over the six week season.
Local vendors were at the racetrack selling hats, shoes, clothing, and jewelry. Restaurants throughout the county joined in on the fun too by hosting parties featuring local food and drinks.
The racetrack employs around 3,500 people providing valuable jobs for San Diegans. The racetrack will host an additional 350 events in 2015 providing economic benefits year round.
As a horse lover, Diane appreciates that the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club holds all trainers and jockeys to the highest equine health and safety standards. Additionally the Club donates 15% of all sales to the Helen Woodward Animal Center of Rancho Santa Fe.
