Districtwide push to promote tax savings options, manufacturing, and jobs!
October is Manufacturing Month and Board of Equalization Member Diane Harkey has organized October workshops in San Diego, Riverside, Orange, Imperial and San Bernardino Counties for local manufacturers to connect with government and industry partners, learn more about tax incentives, and learn how to grow their business and create more jobs here in California.
The workshops will explain how companies can qualify for the California manufacturing tax exemption and the Governor’s GO-Biz grants to help expand manufacturing in California. Last summer, manufacturers and certain research and developers began qualifying for partial exemptions of sales and use tax on specified purchases. Under this new law, certain businesses can qualify with the BOE for a tax break of $41.88 for every $1,000 spent on qualified purchases.
Member Harkey has written numerous letters of support for GO-Biz grant applications from fourth district companies. In her first six month in office Member Harkey helped Telogis from Orange County secure a credit that will help the company create 202 new jobs. In San Diego, Member Harkey helped NASSCO secure a credit of $2 million, allowing the company to invest $100 million and create 384 new jobs.
Board Member Harkey remarked:
“Manufacturing Month is a great opportunity to highlight the various ways State, County, and local governments are working to support businesses that are vital to a strong California economy and create more high paying jobs for our region.” Harkey continued, “Through our workshops we have helped businesses grow, take advantage of California’s manufacturing tax incentives, and garner GO-Biz grants that will bring millions of dollars and hundreds of jobs to Southern California.”
