Culinary professionals, with an appetite for information, enjoyed a generous three-course presentation of palatable industry knowledge during the recent Central Orange County Food Industry Workshop, hosted by Board member Diane Harkey. The forum was organized to inform restaurant, bar and food-based business owners of the sales tax requirements for the industry – and also to explain the many services available to food businesses at the California State Board of Equalization (BOE).
Guests received a detailed summary of the state sales and use tax regulations that apply to a variety of food based businesses. Additionally, instructions for obtaining filing assistance, expert tax advice, and other services were provided.
The comprehensive workshop provided the added value of our partnership with the Orange County Health Department and California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. Representatives from both agencies provided information to assist attendees with passing health inspections, proper food storage, restrictions for home kitchens, different types of alcohol licenses, how to obtain an alcohol license and much more.
Diane Harkey offers BOE workshops on a variety of other industry specific topics throughout Orange, Riverside, San Diego, Imperial and San Bernardino Counties. The presentations provide information intended to increase understanding of California’s tax law for business owners who are informed and keep companies knowing and growing.
