In a continued display of support for Manufacturing Month, California State Board of Equalization (BOE) Member Diane L. Harkey sponsored a Santa Ana Manufacturing, Research & Development Workshop for business owners in the 4th District. The class was organized to inform business and accounting professionals of a new exemption that reduces the sales tax rate by more than half on qualified purchases.
The energetic crowd included a young man just getting started as a home goods manufacturer, a marketing professional drawn by her curiosity, and an accountant from a Southern California cosmetics manufacturer hoping to glean information useful in reducing her company’s expansion costs. The hour-long presentation detailed requirements for receiving the reduced tax rate, as well as many other business services available through the BOE.
“Manufacturing Month is a great opportunity to highlight the various ways state, county, and local governments are working to support businesses that are vital to a strong California economy and create more high paying jobs for our region,” Harkey said in a statement.
The BOE offers several presentations that help taxpayers understand California’s sales tax regulations, file timely and accurate returns, and learn about exemptions and deductions available for their business. Visit the BOE for a calendar of live BOE presentations and to make reservations.
